Major Road Crossings
Summer 2009
Broadwater
Check out the new bike/pedestrian at-grade crossing on Broadwater, complete with a refuge island (just west of 28th Street West). This crossing allows for trail users to safely cross Broadwater and connects Lillis Park to the north with Descro Park to the south. The trail through Descro Park was completed several years ago (along the park land just south of the Billings Bench Water Association canal). Descro Park trail connects to the Stewart Park Trail with another crossing at Central Avenue. Stewart Park Trail takes you all the way to Monad.
Monad
Two at grade street crossings were completed on Monad to connect the trail through Stewart Park with the trail that was just completed through Lampman Park. Two crossings were built because there wasn’t enough right of way along Monad to build a trail so trail users must use on-street bike lanes between the two segments of trail. Since bikes must move in the same direction as traffic, two refuge islands and crossings were needed to accommodate trail traffic going both directions.
King Avenue West
At King Avenue West a new mid-block crossing for the trail network has been constructed complete with refuge island, painted walkways and solar push button street crossing lights. This allows trail users to cross two lanes of traffic at a time with refuge in the middle of the street before they cross the other two lanes of traffic.
